Meet the riders that join me

The main purpose of this ride is to get out and ride with others. On this page, I hope to introduce you to the guys (and gals)that join me for a ride as I make me way across the country.

Dan Sivertsen is a retired Microsoft guy with Super Tenere #9 off the factory floor that was bound for the USA. He’s also a founding member of the PNWSTOG going back to 2012. A great rider that has joined me on several rides over the years. Thank you Dan for riding out to Cape Flattery and Neah Bay on day 1.

Greg and Cindy Guoan met Dan and I on day 1 near their home in Port Angeles for the ride to Cape Flattery. Cindy is an accomplished dual sport rider being one of the “Dirty Girls” and she hosted a ride recently for the International Woman’s ride day that drew a good number of ladies from the PNW. Greg is a great rider also that joined the PNWSTOG for their 1st big ride in Cle Elum through the cascades. Thanks guys for showing us the way up to Cape Flattery.

Paul Nelson joined me on day 2 from Madras Oregon to the Summer Lake hot springs in Paisley Oregon. Paul is a retired high school teacher that was the host for the PNWSTOG’s big summer ride out of Sandy, Oregon around Mt Hood. His bunk house over the boat shop has hosted many a passing Tenere owner more than once. He also has the distinction of being an Iron butt member by doing his “Saddle Sore 1000” INSIDE the state of Oregon! Great job Paul! Thanks for joining me.

Tim Olmstead lead me on a 4 day tour around Northern California from Mt Shasta, Redding and out to Garberville in the Redwoods then down into the north side of the Bay Area . Tim is a retired California State parks administrator that is already on his second Super Tenere. He is extremely knowledgeable of the roads in Northern California, having done just about all of them 😉 He would make a great guide if ever in the area!

LtCol (ret) “Cool hand” Luke Atewll is a Veteran of the US Marine Corps and US Air Force where he flew F-4 Fantom,F-111 Aardvark and F-16 Falcon fighter/bomber aircraft. Luke is currently a High School history teacher and coaches the ladies softball team. He is also a dual Yamaha owner with an XT250 and XT1200 Tenere and rides them throuout his hometown of Las Vegas as well in the mountains of Southern Utah. His longest ride on the Tenere was to Key West and Matawaska Maine ( the two corners I have yet to get to)  I spent the day riding with Luke in the Dixie National Forest of Southern Utah. We headed up the ATV trails to Starwberry point for a spectacular view of the Zion National Park in the distance. Thank you Luke for your company and hospitality.

SFC Gary Rankins is a PNWSTOG member that was just transferred from JBLM in Tacoma Wa to Ft Drum in Up state New York. He and his wife Suzie were at my going away back in May and it’s totally awesome that I can ride with him now in New York.  We will be going to the Touratech Rally East in central Pennsylvania to ride through the Alaganey mountains. Thank you Gary for your hospitality!

I had the distinct pleasure of spending a few days riding with “Mr.Twisted” Erik Stephens. He’s the founder and CEO of Twisted Throttle, an international company that makes accessories for Adventure motorcycles.  We rode from the Headquarters in Exeter Rhode Island up to  ” Bahaa Habaa” Maine to be the 1st in the US to see the sunrise  from on top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park. The clouds were pretty thick but that didn’t stop us and few hundred from heading up there. I know Erik needed a break from the office, he doesn’t get out on two wheels as much as he’d like. It was also very cool getting to know him on a personal level as opposed to what you see on the web. Thanks Erik for joining me!

Jon Polay contacted me via the Tenere forum because he wanted to show me the best and his favorite roads in SW Pennsylvania. I pulled up to his place just outside State College Pa and into his 3 “car” garage but it wasn’t filled with cars, but 8 motorcycles! One for every day of the week 😉 There were some from Yamaha, Ducati, Suzuki, Honda, Buell, and Kawasaki. He’s not too picky.. Actually one of the bikes was for his wife and another for his son, even so, it’s a dream garage for most of us. Thank you Jon for 200+ miles of the best scenic vistas and twisty two lane roads Pennsylvania has to offer! Y’all are really lucky to have that in your back yard! Don’t be surprised if I show back up in the future for more!!

Shannon Manley(Capt USAF Ret) contacted me a few weeks ago and invited me over when I was passing through south eastern Iowa( Iowa City). Shannon is a Tenere owner and is also retired USAF so I know we would have lots to talk about. I wound up spending 2 nights because I had a new rear tires installed.  My 3rd day there, we headed to the National Motorcycle Museum in  Anamosa Iowa. It was a good but windy ride up to Anamosa. Thanks for the service contact at Sun and Fun Motorsports

Paul Guerin is one of the founding members of the PNWSTOG but with him living in Moses Lake, we only see him for the big events :-p Paul was kind enough to host me as I passed through Moses Lake on the last leg of my trip. His gumbo is worth having, and coming from a Cajun, that should say enough.  Paul joined me the next morning out to the Drop Zone I worked at and then to Ellensburg, over Old Blewitt Pass and lunch in Leavenworth. I told you the braughts were good! Thanks for joining me!

(2019 edit)

So many have joined me this past year! thanks to all!
